Jaime Byrd, a contemporary performing songwriter living outside
Asheville North Carolina, is best known for playing a gritty fusion of original
folk and country-tinged rock music. Her strong and bold vocals variously invoke
familiar sounds, but more often are described as unique and unequal displaying
a sound all her own. Playing a style of rhythmic and soulful music, Jaime has
a crafted pop feel in her writing and can keep an audience riveted to the stage
with enjoyment. Her dynamic stage presence and confidence demands your attention
immediately. Reading her lyrics brings to mind the stand-alone poetic qualities
of Laura Nyro, Carol King, Paul Simon, or Tom Waits, all whom have been great
musical influences for her.
Jaime has opened shows and shared the stage with a wide range
of artists including Emmy Lou Harris, Dave Mason, Maria Muldaur, Wild Rose,
Carlene Carter, Christine Lakeland, and folk artists Ellis Paul, and Vance Gilbert.
Performing now for over 20 years beginning in Los Angeles
California, Jaime has played regularly at places such as The Troubadour, At
My Place, McCabes Acoustic listening room, and now the Gray Eagle is Asheville,
NC.
At First Night events in downtown Asheville, North Carolina,
Jaime has been one of the featured performers at both the 1999 and 2000 new
years eve parties. She has been invited to perform at The Belle Chere Festival
in Asheville in July of 2002 and performs at other community events and festivals
through out the area.
In September 1995, Jaime won the International Airplay "Trailblazer" award in Nashville, TN. recognizing her musical and artistic contribution to the independent music industry.
Her first acoustic recording entitled, "I'm Too Small" did exceptionally
well in sales and was well received by listeners throughout the Southwest and
Northwest. This recording received airplay from a number of radio stations while
Jaime appeared live for performances and interviews.
While performing and recording with her band, Jaime Byrd and the Big Dogs, Jaime
received a semi finalist spot in the Musician Magazine's "Best unsigned
bands" contest for 1990.
"I have always been passionate with what I do and who I am. I live my life
in the moment while staying honest and grounded with what I believe to be the
essential part of being alive. I try to convey and use this in my music, performance,
and in my song writing," Byrd states.
Jaime Byrd now performs regularly with her partner, percussionist, Adam Cohen.
The two of them are planning to record a new CD this summer with the help of
local songwriter Chris Rosser.
Jaime continues to write and perform her music with her faithful dog, Sahron, at her side. Good girl, Sahron, good girl.
